Joyce Chen is currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (Projected Graduation in June, 2018). As part of a larger group, she helped to develop patented inventions for an automated pill storage device and a water filtration system (currently deployed in four countries), winning an award from the American Society of Plumbing Engineers for the latter.

She previously assisted with research in the Teaching Systems Lab at MIT and is currently working with the MIT Media Lab (City Science group), gaining experience with UI and UX, translating tangible deployments to web-based interfaces, and assisting with graphical and artistic design while utilizing programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

Her programming background includes Python, C++, Java, Javascript, Git, LaTeX, and HTML/CSS. She also has interests and skills in the visual arts and design, and is comfortable with CAD and drawing, winning a Silver Key and Gold Key from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards in the Visual Arts and earning three First Place Awards in Architecture from both the Florida State Fair and the Miami-Dade Fair.
